Snow Spin is the brand new game from the Edis Brothers Jamie and Simon - the Independent Australian studio that has brought you hit games like Crazy Snowboard, Diversion and Team Awesome!!

After years collecting artifacts from the most remote corners of the globe our daring explorer is finally heading home. His trusty airplane is loaded to the brim with priceless treasures destined for his museum. Taking a short-cut over the arctic turns out to be a bad decision when his plane starts to fall apart, scattering his possessions and forcing him to crash land on a mysterious snowy island.

Armed only with his trusty snowboard he’ll need to explore the island to recover the missing items and broken parts of his plane. Will he be able to make the necessary repairs and escape? Along the way he’ll meet a cast of crazy characters, make some new friends, go on quests and maybe even find a wooly mammoth or two!

History

We first started playing around with the game mechanic and touch controls for Snow Spin in early 2013. We wanted to do a behind-the-back runner-type game with swipe controls, but didn't want players to be locked into a track with pre-defined lanes or sides. We also wanted to avoid having an on-screen joystick so we went with a swipe mechanism that gives the player a nice quick carving turn before reverting back to a forward motion. We also really wanted to capture the look of those old Rankin-Bass stop-motion holiday TV specials, so we started experimenting with different models, materials and shaders. Originally it was going to be a quick little endless runner, but then we successfully applied for a Game Production grant from Screen Australia and had the resources to flesh it out into a bigger game. So, rather than starting at the begining and repeating a single level each time, we were able to build out 50 different levels each with an objective and reward to progress your character on the game map. Jamie started doing these super-cute models of baby seals and penguins, and the rest just fell into place!
